Supporting Cricket in Scotland from the Grass Roots Up
19th March 2020
Boroughmuir CC was able to purchase a BOLA Professional Bowling Machine in December 2019 following a successful grant application to the Cricket Development Trust Scotland (CDTS). The club was awarded a £1000 grant and an additional £500 loan which made the purchase possible.
The bowling machine was delivered in time for the club’s winter indoor nets which run from midJanuary through to the end of March 2020. This provides our junior hardball section with an ideal opportunity to benefit from pre-season training, with the bowling machine helping to address batting technique and give additional focused coaching.
The club’s junior section has grown to 25 in the last few years and Boroughmuir CC is now starting to make links to local schools to get more kids interested in cricket and to join the regular sessions that the club provided before and during the season. In addition, BCC has in recent years partnered with Edinburgh South CC, allowing combined U12, U14 and U16 teams (under the name ‘SouthMuir Sharks’) to compete in regional leagues.
The club will continue to try and improve the ‘cricketing experience’ for all juniors in terms of safety, enjoyment, quality of coaching and opportunities for practice and matches. The purchase of the bowling machine has undoubtedly helped the club take a step forward and we are already seeing the benefits in terms of the kids’ improvement and their enjoyment of the sessions.
Once again, we thank CDTS for their generous contribution towards the bowling machine.
